Customer Requirement To design a multi-axis transportation robot instead of human handling and conveying the cable holding device between the working stations. For achieving manufacture automation, the robot would be a mechatronic system, with cost-effective purpose. The robot should be reliable and working compactly, in order to solve the manpower shortage problem, also improve the working environment of workers.

We have three designs for the driving system, electric, pneumatic and hybrid (pneumatic and electric), which we follow the customer’s requirements to brew. Here are our first draft and ideas of three driving systems:
Electric Upper part: This part is a robot arm connected with two same gears. With the same gear ratio, two robot arms have the same angular displacement but opposite direction so that it can pick up and release the workpiece easily. Two gears are driven by the electric motor. Middle part: This part can be rotate and up & down. The working platform is installed at the top of the part. The motor is response to give a rotation movement while the SMC product gives up & down movement to the system. The upper part is installed on the working platform. Lower part: This Working platform is stickled with the timing belt which the x-axis of the driving system. Timing has a good positioning and can stop in different position with high accuracy. Pneumatic Top view: X-axis is controlled by a penumatic cylinder, moving two ends of the cylinder. On the loading platform, there are three section of aluminium-based built arm, driven by pneumatic cylinder to achieve human arm motion. Between each section, hinge is used to connect each arm for rotary motion, in the front of the arm, there is a gripper for gripping the cable holding tool. Mixed (pneumatic & electric) Upper part: This robot arm is driven pneumatically for open and close motion. The mechanism is similar to electric driven one. However, the major different is electric and pneumatic. Middle part: Four pistons are installed to give movement on z-axis. The benefits are it got enough power and fast for any movement, the drawback are difficult to synchronise at the same stroke speed to achieve horizontal movement. Lower part: It is a timing belt with good timing and position control. Working only on x-axis. It is similar to the lower part of electric design one. |
